[Interview] Guillaume Rostand – Head of Marketing at Splendia.com
Splendia, the famous Luxury Hotels Online Travel Agent, has released today his new Responsive Web Design. Splendia.com provides a curated selection of exceptional hotels offering high quality of services by traveling around the world.
During my latest meeting with Guillaume Rostand, the Head of Marketing, I asked him to share some insights about organisation of this project :
“First of all, I’d like to thanks Esario’s team for helping us in the process of revamping our website as much as optimizing our SERP for the past 4 years. To try to be short, I would say that a responsive design consists of 3 different web design enabling to offer a comfortable reading and navigation of a website on any type of device: Mobile, tablets & desktops.
Considering that a smartphone or a tablet user has 2 ways of navigating a website depending on way he holds his screen (Portrait or Landscape), we first started by making several schema/sketches simulating different navigation pattern on 3 screen sizes for better consistency.
It consists on drawing boxes corresponding to position and size in pixel of logo, image, text, menu, booking engine… Then our designers integrated all graphical elements on 3 screen size design schema and came up with several solutions.”“After completing several usability and user testing sessions where we asked user to realize different scenarios, we think we now found the right balance to keep a consistent image and provide an intuitive navigation on all type of device. Now that we are live, we will closely monitor our web analytics and gather more user feedbacks thanks to social media. We have been investing a fair amount of resources on our presence on all main social network the past year and growth our reach. We are for example number 1 in terms of followers on Instagram in our market”

Here is the final result for the 3 different devices. On 3 design version below, booking engine remains the reference point and on mobile phone version, email and form contact disappear to emphasis “Call Button”:
Computer and tablet used horizontally
Tablet used vertically
Mobile phone and menu
