Link Building Strategies

How to start link building?

1. Run some queries with the keywords you identified at the end of point 12 "Finding the right keywords" on the main search engines (Google, Yahoo and Msn). All the websites returning on the two first pages for the specific keyword you put are your competitors. Take the most relevant sites and ignores Wikipedia listing, for example.

2. Once you compiled the list of competitors, check the page rank and the traffic volume of each of the sites your competitors have inbound links from.

You can use the following free products to do that:

- Smart Page Rank - to get plenty of aggregated data (Alexa traffic, registration date, backlinks, etc) on a given website (note: PR function isn’t working).

- Quantcast - to access any website traffic and demographics states.

3. Use metavisual search engine like www.kartoo.com or www.touchgraph.com with your competition names to identify the main concept, websites or notion associated to a competitor.

4. Download the Free Toolbar: http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/ on Firefox Mozilla and visit www.linkdiagnosis.com and you will be able to see all the websites your competitors obtain inbound links from.

5. Find a strategy to get inbound links from all the sites that have already links to your competitors but have a Page Rank equal or superior to 3. You should focus on getting links from good websites.
